I am sad to report that 92Q‘s very own Kelson “The Urban Informer” has committed
social suicide. In honor of World AIDS Day 2010, celebs have jumped on the bandwagon to support A.Keys’ “Keep A Child Alive” Foundation. As creepy as this whole thing is, it’s nice to see celebs giving back and Kelson has also taken the pledge.
Yep, you read right. That means Kelson “The Urban Informer,” whose blackberry is permanently glued to his hand, has agreed to not log onto facebook and twitter for 24 hours. Do you think he can do it? Well I promise, I will be lurking around his office all day and if I dare see that he has logged on, I will be the first to let you know. But seriously though, this is just a small gesture but the cause is much greater and he has vowed to do his part to Keep A Child Alive.
USA Today reports that Keys, along with celebs including Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Ryan Seacrest, Justin Timberlake, P. Diddy, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Khloe Kardashian, Jay Sean, Swizz Beatz,Serena Williams, The Buried Life, Elijah Wood, Janelle Monae, Kimberly Cole, David LaChapelle, Daphne Guinness and Bronson Pelletier will take a moment of silence and “end their digital lives” by signing off from all social networking platforms including Twitter and Facebook in solidarity for those in Africa and India affected by HIV/AIDS.
How can you buy the celebs’ lives back? Visit buylife.org or text a participating celeb’s name to 90999 to buy their digital life back. They will not return to twitter or facebook until $1,000,000 is raised to Keep A Child Alive.
They have pledged to sign back online when $1 million has been raised for the Keep A Child Alive charity, which supports families affected by HIV/Aids in Africa and India. Their videos will appear in ads showing them lying in coffins to represent what the campaign calls their “digital deaths”.
“Keep a Child Alive provides first class AIDS care through doctors, nutrition, testing, transportation, and treatment for opportunistic infections, which are all necessary for anti-retroviral treatment to be successful. KCA also provides the care and support to keep orphaned and abandoned children safe.”
