To close out the 18th birthday weekend for the Hollywood hit film, Friday After Next, let’s take a look at 10 facts about the film courtesy of IMDB:

1. It was originally meant to be called “Final Friday,” but the producers thought it too similar to Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993), and didn’t want to rule out a fourth film.

2. Don Curry and Mike Epps play father and son but are really only 9 years apart. Don Curry and John Witherspoon play brothers but are really almost 20 years apart.

3. This is the only Friday movie that did not have a Scarface (1983) reference.

4. John Witherspoon (Mr. Jones) and Bebe Drake (Ms. Pearly) were cast as husband and wife in House Party in 1990 and Boomerang in 1992.

5. Day Day’s bull terrier is named Chico, the same dog the Joker Brothers had from “Next Friday.”

6. Chris Tucker was asked to reprise his role for the third film in the franchise, but rejected. Mike Epps then called up asking to reprise his role less than an hour later.

7. Was originally meant to be called “Final Friday,” but the producers thought it too similar to Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993), and didn’t want to rule out a fourth film.

8. The character of Roach was written into the original script, but the script was rewritten after the English actor-skateboarder Justin Pierce committed suicide about six months after the release of the previous film Next Friday (2000).

9 .The toy store in the strip mall where Day-Day (Mike Epps) and Craig (Ice Cube) work is called Toyz in the Hood which is a reference to the movie Boyz in the Hood (1991) which Ice Cube co-starred in.

10 . At the party, Craig (Ice Cube) is holding a bucket that reads, “It’s better to give than receive,” which is a reference to what Bernie Mac’s character said in the original ‘Friday,’ (1995) when he attempts to smoke marijuana with “Craig” & “Smokey.”
