Actor Jussie Smollett Proposes To Boyfriend
Actor turned filmmaker and director Jussie Smollett recently announced his engagement to his longtime boyfriend Jabari Redd.
Smollett proposed on June 20, one day before his own 43rd birthday, sharing heartfelt photos on Instagram. Smollett captioned the post, “I’ll be spending my birthday with my Fiancé … He said YES.” Family and friends flooded the comments, welcoming Redd into the Smollett clan.
Smollett’s life has been a rollercoaster for the past few years. In 2019, he claimed to be the victim of a hate crime in Chicago but was later convicted in 2021 of staging the attack and sentenced to 150 days in jail plus restitution. However, in November 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned that conviction, citing a due-process violation. He also resolved a Chicago civil suit by donating $50,000 to charity earlier this year.
Nowadays, it seems like Smollett is focused on new beginnings. He directed the 2024 film The Lost Holiday, starring alongside Redd, and has transitioned toward producing and directing, including features like B-Boy Blues.
