It’s been a busy year for the hip hop industry and fans of all backgrounds have been celebrating. We’ve seen releases from J. Cole, DJ Khaled, Lil’ Baby and more, making the last few months all about new music. Out of all of the hip hop releases, Moneybag Yo’s A Gangsta’s Pain continues its reign at the top of the charts.

According to Hits Daily Double, Moneybag Yo’s A Gangsta’s Pain has sold 659,000 copies, making it the highest-selling Hip Hop LP of the year thus far. Pooh Shiesty’s Shiesty Season was a (kinda) close second with 647,000 copies sold and in a surprising third position, J Cole’s The Off Season with 623,000 copies sold.

No surprise.

When I was in Jamaica in May, I was raving about Moneybag Yo’s album to my friends. I’m a sucker for authentic stories and I love when the lyrics come to life. There was something about Moneybag’s tone that allowed him to paint a picture and really helped us feel “a gangsta’s pain”.

He released the album on April 23rd and it’s been climbing every since. The album is anchored by the chart-topping hits “Wockesha” and “Time Today”, both of which have made it to radio. Look for Moneybag’s momentum to continue into the fall as he recently announced a 20-city tour.

The “A Gangsta’s Pain Tour” begins on Sept. 29th in Tampa Bay and ends Oct. 26th in Seattle.

Also, you’ll get the opportunity to witness Moneybag Yo in our city. He’ll be in the town for our “End of Summer Jam” September 19th at the Merriweather Post Pavilion.
