It’s official, Juneteenth is now a federal holiday!! President Joe Biden signed the bill on Thursday (June 17th)  commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Despite Fourteen Republicans being opposed to the legislation in the House,  it passed by unanimous voice vote in the Senate ( I know that’s right). When talking about the new holiday President Biden said the holiday said it was “a day in which we remember the moral stain, the terrible toll that slavery took on the country, and continues to take.”Biden also added that he wants all Americans to “feel the power of this day and learn from our history, and celebrate the progress, and grapple with the distance we’ve come, and the distance we have to travel.” Great nations “don’t ignore their most painful moments.”
