With all the events that I put together, it had to take a lot of conversations and PRAYER to convince him that they’ll work for the better of the company or even the customer. They respect my ambition and have gone along with every idea (take away about two) that I had. They know my heart and that I only want what’s best for the community. But when it’s a hard sell, I have to put my boots on and develop a plan that will truly convince them this idea will be a good one to invest in.

If you have an idea or if you had a few that your boss wasn’t convinced will work, maybe you missed a few steps toward selling your idea.

Evaluate your idea from your boss’ perspective. Determine the strengths and weaknesses of the idea and potential questions that arise from your proposal. Shore up your idea by doing research to counteract weaknesses and consider answers for all potential questions.

Prepare a professional proposal for your boss. It should include a management summary, a detailed section on your idea and a proposed implementation plan.

Present your idea to your boss. Provide a copy of your proposal and discuss your concept, requirements and the potential of your idea.

Give your boss time to completely review your proposal and discuss it with other business stakeholders, then request a status update. Avoid being overly aggressive, but establish a sense of urgency for a decision.
