We are always good at making them, but fail tremendously when trying to keep them. These 5 tips will help you stick to your New Year’s resolution!

Create a plan.

Don’t just create a new year’s resolution without knowing how to actually achieve your objectives. Discover what it takes to be successful. Do your research. Visit the bookstore, talk with family and friends or consult experts if necessary. Learn all you need to know about how to reach your goals so you can develop the tools necessary to achieve them.

Create a time frame.

Most resolutions fail because there is no end date to strive for. Every goal needs a realistic timeframe. For instance, you could say “I want to loose 20-30 lbs in 5 months.” That breaks down to 5-6 lbs a month. You can do that, you just need to find out how. Or, “I want to break-up with my boyfriend or girlfriend, who doesn’t appreciate me, by the end of January.” Go for it! Dates will help you get motivated.

Reward yourself!

When you find that you have reached certain milestones reward yourself. If your goal was to find a new job, reward yourself when you’ve updated your resume and landed your first interview. If you planned to loose 20 lbs, reward yourself every time you loose 5 lbs. Rewarding yourself for a job well done will help you keep moving in the right direction.

Involve family and friends, or join a group.

Chances are, your not the only one with your particular resolution. Look to family or friends who have the same goals in mind, and buddy up. Help each other out, two is definitely stronger than one; so pair up and inspire each other when the going gets tough. If don’t have family of friends with the same objectives, join a group. There you’ll make new friends and find the support you need. Remember, you don’t have to go at it alone.

Don’t be so hard on yourself.

With every goal comes the possibility of failure. You may meet your goals with a few challenges. If you find you have gone off your path for a few days, don’t give up. Just remember that goal that you set will improve the quality of your life, take some time to regroup and get yourself back on track. Just keep going and don’t stop before the miracle happens. It may take days, weeks, or months, but its a guarantee, that in time, with your dedication, you will achieve your goal; the miracle will happen.
