The Baltimore City Council voted in approval of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s budget at a committee hearing Tuesday, despite a push from some members to further cut funding to several agencies.
The council plans to pass a final version of the budget Monday. The spending plan, which cuts $121 million from the city’s $2.2 billion budget, and an accompanying $50 million package of taxes and fees, have been the subject of a months-long struggle between the administration and the council.
The council and the city’s spending board have approved about $43 million in revenue-generating measures. But the council has not made a decision on a four-cent bottle tax that Rawlings-Blake says could generate $11 million.
