Raymond Berry, the legendary Baltimore Colts wide receiver, Pro Football Hall of Famer, and former New England Patriots head coach, has died at the age of 93.
Berry passed away at his home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, surrounded by family, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, three children, and nine grandchildren.
A member of the Hall of Fame’s Class of 1973, Berry was widely regarded as one of the NFL’s most dedicated and technically skilled receivers. Hall of Fame President Jim Porter praised Berry’s relentless work ethic and humility, noting that while he may not have possessed the size or speed of many of his peers, he perfected his craft through discipline and preparation.
Berry spent his entire 13-year playing career with the Baltimore Colts from 1955 to 1967. During his time in Baltimore, he earned six Pro Bowl selections and helped lead the Colts to two NFL championships. He led the league in receptions in 1957, 1959, and 1960 and retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in catches.
Berry leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the greatest players in Baltimore Colts history and one of football’s most respected ambassadors.
