Sports stories do more than stuff the stats; they also bring energy to the city. We’ve got quite the sports story brewing right here in Bird City and it’s all centered around Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
The “Flock” has been playing high-grade football and has provided highlight after highlight, all season long. A lot of those highlights are dominated by former Heisman winner, Lamar Jackson, who has compiled a 66.3% completion percentage and a beautiful passer rating of 106.3%.
The true story isn’t based on statistics, though. The true story is one of resilience, focus, and drive; something that this city is built on.
Lamar Jackson’s entry into the NFL was quite shocking as 31 NFL teams passed up on Lamar’s talent in the 2018 NFL Draft. Coming out of the draft, many analysts and draft scouts suggested that Lamar give up his dreams of playing Quarterback in the NFL and become a Wide-Receiver or Running back instead. They feared that his passing ability was not strong enough to lead a team at the QB1 position, but his athleticism could garner some praise from NFL teams.
Yeah, they messed that up.
Lamar Jackson was drafted at No.32 by the Baltimore Ravens and was immediately scrutinized for his passing ability. Questions began surrounding his potential at QB1 until Joe Flacco got injured and Jackson was called on to step up.
Let’s call this the Intro to the Lamar Jackson Era.
Since then, Jackson has led the Ravens to the Playoffs (2018) and an unbelievable 2019 season that has them sitting at No.1 in the AFC North. The 8-2 Ravens have been hailed as the hottest team in the NFL and Lamar Jackson is currently the front-runner in the MVP race.
