You would think in 2017, sexuality would not be an issue. Unfortunately, it still is. A father in Henderson, NV, is currently under arrest for killing his 14-year old son, last Thursday.
According to the news outlet, it was believed that his father was not happy that his son was gay. Giovanni Melton’s former foster mother, Sonja Jones, in a phone interview said, “Giovanni was abused physically and mentally and spiritually for many, many years.”
Jones said family members shared with her that the father and son had recently had an argument over his son’s sexuality, which led to the deadly shooting.
“He hated the fact that his son was gay. I’m sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son. I’m hearing his dad had caught him with his boyfriend before and pulled out a gun on him. I hope they throw the book at him. I hope he never sees the light of day. I hope every day when he looks in the mirror, he sees his son’s face.”
