Three people were injured in two separate shootings in Ferguson this week during community marches for Freddie Gray.

The shootings occurred late Tuesday evening as a group of about 50 protesters marched near West Florissant Avenue near Canfield Drive, the same area where Michael Brown was shot and killed by former officer Darren Wilson last year, the St. Louis Dispatch reports.

Acting Ferguson Police Chief Al Eickhoff informed reporters that five arrests were made during the protests when people unrelated to the cause interfered. Eickhoff took over the position after Thomas Jackson resigned in March.

“This community is trying to move forward and there are people who are just set on violence,” Eickhoff said. “(The people who committed crimes) were not protesters, they were just a criminal element set on undoing all that this community has done to move forward.”

Two victims were shot in the neck by Windward Court, while the other was shot in the leg near Florissant Drive. The shooters are as yet unknown. The injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

“We’ve got a certain amount of a criminal element that do not want to see the community move forward. We’ve got a completely new face on the city council and we’re changing things. I’m not sure if they’re just resisting it or what. The three shooting victims we had were rioters, and while we’re trying to take care of the victims, they’re intent on damaging the policemen who are trying to help the rioters that have been shot,” Eickhoff said.

A gas station in Deliwood was also looted for the third time since August. Two dozen people were reported to have invaded the store, which has suffered a total of $70,000 in damages between the initial looting in August and the second in November. Employees said they were unharmed and knew “not to get involved” with the looters.
