So, looks like you went in a little too early for the Labor Day weekend huh? Now, you’re at the office, slumped over your keyboard, phone on Do Not Disturb and your emails have a auto reply message.

If you’re dealing with a hangover today, and your boss isn’t giving you the go-ahead to take the rest of the day off, I found some tips to help you get over that hangover hump!

Getting rid of the hangover:

  • Take a non-acetaminophen over-the-counter painkiller like aspirin or ibuprofen. Painkillers’ effects peak at about four hours, so the effect of taking a painkiller before bed will be gone by the next morning (when your hangover strikes).
  • Drink plenty of water and electrolyte-replenishing sports drinks the next morning. This will help ease any symptoms of dehydration, which often goes hand in hand with a hangover.
  • Eat bland foods like toast and crackers. It’s not to “absorb” the alcohol (which is what most people think). It’s to boost your blood sugar.

How do you get rid of the alcohol smell?

  • Take Bentonite and charcoal capsules. Although this is probably the worst tasting way to remove alcohol breath, it’s widely known as the most effective. They can be found at any drug store. Follow the instructions on the package.
  • Gobble up some potato chips. Potato chips, especially when they’re lightly dipped in peanut butter, can help to mask the alcohol smell.
  • Use toothpaste and mouthwash. After eating aromatic food and chewing some gum, brush your teeth. Using a mouthwash like Listerine is also highly recommended.

A good nap wouldn’t hurt either. Close and lock your office door and give it about 20 minutes!
