Baltimore County fire officials said a CSX train derailed in the area of the 7500 block of Lake Drive near 66th Street in Rosedale at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday after it collided with a truck.

Preliminary reports indicate several buildings collapsed at site of train derailment.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says the cause of the derailment appeared to be a collision, “Apparently the CSX train had contact with a commercial vehicle. The driver of the vehicle is in Shock Trauma in serious condition.”

Officials confirmed that 15 CSX train cars derailed with two of them on their side.

“We don’t know how many total train cars are involved,” Baltimore County Fire Chief John Hohman said.

Officials said two people on the CSX train were not injured, but the driver of the trash truck was injured.

CSX officials said no toxic inhalants are involved, but hazmat crews are on the scene.

The Baltimore Police Department said emergency management advises people in warehouses and businesses in the area of Route 40 to evacuate if they can see the smoke plume.

Baltimore County emergency officials are also advising people in a 20-block area around the incident to evacuate. There is no word yet on when they will be allowed to return.
