Taking days off from work or school doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re on vacation. I don’t think I’ve ever had an opportunity NOT to drive anyone anywhere, or do anything when I’m away from work. When I take time off to visit my family, it’s never a break away from anything because I have to make sure I’m available to visit relatives and friends (which I don’t have much time to do so someone in the family ends up not getting a visit).

I promise the next time I take off from work for a “VACATION”, I will take these tips with me:

Limit your use of electronics as much as possible. Not something I’m used to doing, but it does help when you’re away from your phone and other electronics.

Pick a destination that YOU or your whole family will enjoy. Try to pick a place where each person can find something they really want to try. Make it a point to include all family members on each excursion or activity. It will be fun, and it will give your more opportunities to learn about each other.

Play board games. Nothing brings people together better than board games. I suggest playing Cranium, Apples to Apples, and Dominoes.

Do not wear your watch. Let yourself not worry about what time it is. This works when you vacation in Las Vegas!

Explore your surroundings. Take time to really discover your new surroundings.
