2. Deep Creek Lake
Nestled in the western part of the state, Deep Creek is a hidden gem for outdoor lovers. Go boating, paddleboarding, or tubing by day, then chill by a lakeside bonfire by night. The area also boasts trails, waterfalls, and Maryland’s only downhill ski resort (Wisp), which opens for mountain biking in the warmer months.
3. Annapolis
Maryland’s capital city brings colonial history and coastal vibes together perfectly. Tour the U.S. Naval Academy, wander cobblestone streets, or enjoy dockside dining with fresh oysters and crab cakes. It’s a great day trip or weekend escape, just a short ride from D.C. and Baltimore.
4. Assateague Island
For something a bit more wild, head to Assateague Island National Seashore to see the famous wild horses roam. The beaches are less crowded, and the natural setting offers a peaceful retreat. You can even camp overnight under the stars.
5. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor
Mix urban energy with waterfront relaxation in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Visit the National Aquarium, ride a water taxi, or check out one of the summer festivals. Don’t forget to grab steamed crabs from a local seafood joint and a drink with a view.
6. St. Michaels
This charming Eastern Shore town blends quaint with cool. Explore the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, book a sailing tour, or wine and dine at one of the waterfront restaurants. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway or a family day trip.
7. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge
Nature lovers and birdwatchers will love this Dorchester County destination. It’s home to bald eagles, herons, and migrating waterfowl. Rent a kayak or bike to explore the trails and waterways.
