6. Ice-T: “The lethal weapon is the mind”

#ThrowbackThursday #TBT // Ice-T, on #TheArsenioHallShow talking using #education to deal with #gangviolence in #Black communities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tracy Lauren Marrow better known by his stage name #IceT, is an American rapper and #actor. He began his career as a rapper in the 1980s and was signed to Sire Records in 1987, when he released his debut album Rhyme Pays, the first hip-hop album to carry an explicit content sticker. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He co-founded the heavy metal band #BodyCount, which he introduced in his 1991 album O.G.: Original Gangster. Body Count released its self-titled debut album in 1992. Ice-T encountered controversy over his track "Cop Killer", which was perceived to glamorize killing police officers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During the popularity of #PublicEnemy, Ice-T was closely associated with the band and his recordings of the time showed a similar political viewpoint. He was referred to as "The Soldier of the Highest Degree" in the booklet for #FearOfABlackPlanet. The #ArsenioHallShow is an American late-night talk show created and hosted by Arsenio Hall. There are two separate programs that have been titled The Arsenio Hall Show, both airing in syndication. The first premiered on January 3, 1989, and ran until May 27, 1994. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Both series were produced by Hall's production company, Arsenio Hall Communications. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The #ArsenioHall Show was aimed primarily at, although not limited to, the younger urban audience. The show quickly appealed to young people of all races and began to attract a wide variety of guests not common on other talk shows (although this popularity with audiences was short-lived and ultimately led to the show's cancellation). It became the show for entertainers to go to in order to reach the "MTV Generation". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #throwbackthursdays #music #art #rap #streetart #hiphop #artists #veryblack #blacklivesmatter #truth #consciousness #staywoke #WashingtonDC #DC #aCreativeDC #BYThings #myDCCool ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ cc: the god @ArsenioHall

#ThrowbackThursday #TBT // Flavor Flav on #TheArsenioHallShow talking “ wasting time” & his infamous clock. #Neverforget ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #PublicEnemy is an American hip hop group consisting of #ChuckD, #FlavorFlav, Professor Griff, Khari Wynn, TerminatorX, DJ Lord, and the S1W group. Formed on Long Island, #NewYork in 1982, they are known for their politically charged music and criticism of the American media, with an active interest in the frustrations and concerns of the #AfricanAmerican community. They remain one of the most critically acclaimed bands in #history. Their first four albums during the late 1980s and early 1990s were all certified either gold or platinum and were, according to music critic Robert Hilburn in 1998, "the most acclaimed body of work ever by a hip hop act." In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Public Enemy number 44 on its list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, the highest ranking for a hip hop act. The group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007. The band were announced as inductees for the 2013 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on December 11, 2012, making them the fourth hip-hop act to be inducted.
