Thieves stole an estimated $200,000 worth of jewelry from a family-owned Baltimore County business during an early-morning burglary Saturday.

The break-in happened at Crown Jewelry on Reisterstown Road. Surveillance video captured two individuals smashing through a glass door before taking jewelry from several display cases, placing the items into bags and fleeing the store.

The stolen merchandise included bracelets, earrings, engagement rings and watches, according to the family.

The burglary is the latest challenge for the family business. WBAL reports that Orshanskiy said the store was forced to close for several months during the COVID-19 pandemic and later suffered damage from flooding caused by a frozen pipe at a neighboring business.

Adding to the financial impact, Orshanskiy said the stolen inventory was not insured because of the high cost of covering the store’s merchandise.

The break-in has also raised concerns among other nearby business owners, with some calling for increased security in the area.

The family hopes to reopen Crown Jewelry within the next few weeks. In the meantime, the store’s online business remains operational.

Baltimore County police are asking anyone with information about the burglary or the individuals involved to contact investigators.
