Mariah Carey has announced that her 16th studio album, a follow-up to her 2018 acclaimed Caution, is officially done. Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden earlier this week, Carey teased a second single drop, describing her new music as “very summery.”

Carey’s lead single, “Type Dangerous,” debuted on June 6 and offers a fresh embrace of Hip Hop Soul with its sample of Eric B. and Rakim’s “Eric B. Is President.” The music video, which was also released earlier this month, shows Carey in full diva mode.

Since Caution, Carey has enjoyed a major comeback season with her Celebration of Mimi residency in Las Vegas, as well as other high-profile performances in Asia, Europe and Brazil. Notably, she still holds the crown as the Queen of Christmas, with her classic hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” achieving diamond status and recently received BET’s Ultimate Icon Award for 2025.

Between heartfelt ballads and summer-ready vibes, fans can soon immerse themselves in what may be Carey’s most personal and dynamic work yet. Stay tuned for upcoming single releases and official album announcements.
