The world hasn’t heard much from Wendy Williams since she was forced to enter into a conservatorship in 2022, but now she’s telling her own story. The media queen called into The Breakfast Club earlier this week with her niece, Alex Finnie, to express her frustration with her court-appointed guardian.

During the interview, Williams denies being “cognitively impaired,” as she’s been described in court documents and news reports, and compares her conservatorship to prison, saying the system she’s in is broken. “This is what is called emotional abuse,” said Williams.

The TV and radio legend went on to describe the strict supervision she’s under and revealed that she has spent the last three birthdays alone. She cried multiple times during the interview and became especially emotional at the thought of not being able to spend her father’s 94th birthday with him. “At 94, the day after that is not promised,” expressed Williams.

When asked about what might happen after this radio interview is released, Finnie said that her aunt is prepared for having her phone taken away. Although she is allowed to make outgoing calls, no one is permitted to call her.

Williams has faced significant health challenges in recent years, leading to her extended absence from television as the host of The Wendy Williams Show. In 2022, she publicly revealed that she was battling Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid. She also suffers from thyroid disease and Lymphedema. Her illnesses were highlighted in her explosive Lifetime documentaries, Where is Wendy Williams? and Wendy Williams: What A Mess! Her struggles with her health were compounded by mental health concerns, ultimately leading to a court-appointed conservatorship.
