Towson High School’s shelter-in-place Monday morning has been lifted after a false threat. Baltimore County Police confirmed that the “suspicion of a handgun never materialized” and the lockdown was lifted around 10:15 a.m.

The principal sent out the below message to families:

Dear Parents and Guardians of Towson High School,

I am writing to inform you that at approximately 9:15 a.m., the school was placed in a shelter-in-place status due to a concerning social media video that showed individuals who may have been in possession of a weapon. Our School Resource Officers, in collaboration with additional Baltimore County police officers, investigated the report, conducted a thorough search, and determined there was no threat and that there were no weapons in the building. The shelter-in-place was lifted at 10:15 a.m.

Ensuring the safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we are grateful for the swift response of BCoPD and their efforts to keep our school safe. As with this case, it is important for all of us – students and parents alike – to inform school staff any time you or your child sees, hears, or reads anything that is suspicious or that may pose a threat to the school or its students. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions.
