Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg are back working together, again. The originally worked together on the original version of The Color Purple in the late 80’s. Now that they’re doing a re-make, they’re calling the shots again.
Oprah Winfrey has cast Taraji P Henson as Shug Avery, H.E.R. as Squeaks, Fantasia will play Celie, Danielle Brooks as Sophia, Corey Hawkins as Harpo, Halle Bailey as Nettie, and Coleman Domingo as Harpo.
The cast are set to head to Atlanta in March to begin filming. As of now, the movie is set to drop in December of 2023.
I know if you LOVE The Color Purple like I do, you’re nervous that they will mess it up. Always we can do is pray. I think Fantasia will play the role of Celie very well because she did it on Broadway. I think Taraji will also do well i the role of Shug Avery because she’s just a great actress.
