It’s spooky season! We’ve been wearing masks (legally mandated) for almost two years (some of us, longer). Now, it’s that time of the year where we wear them for fun. Halloween 2021 is shaping up to be one of the most enjoyable ones in recent history, given all the pinned up energy that Halloween fans are looking to release.

When you’re walking around Fell’s Point or hanging out in Federal Hill this weekend, here are the top 10 costumes you’ll see, according to Google’s “FrightGeist“:

  1. Witch
  2. Rabbit
  3. Dinosaur
  4. Spider-Man
  5. Cruella de Vil
  6. Fairy
  7. Harley Quinn
  8. Cowboy
  9. Clown
  10. Chucky

Surely, I thought more people would have the idea to wear a Squid Game outfit. It’s only the #1 Netflix series in history.  Maybe Google just missed this one in their research. According to Variety, the Squid Game costume is actually the #1 most searched costume for babies. “Google searches for ‘Squid Game Halloween costume’ have spiked 450% in the U.S. the past week. In addition to being the top-trending Halloween costume search overall, “Squid Game” is also No. 1 for baby costumes,” writes Todd Spangler of Variety.

Outside for Halloween

Last year’s Halloween was less than appealing due to COVID-19. We didn’t have a vaccine yet and were in the middle of a surge in cases. Experts predict that given the recent decline in case numbers, this Halloween weekend is expected to be memorable and historic. “Sales of candy, costumes and décor are up at least 25% over last year and are predicted to set a new high, between $10 to $11 billion”, said Aneisha McMillan, spokeswoman for the trade group Halloween and Costume Association.

Enjoy the holiday but please be safe! It’s exciting to see us outside again.
