On Saturday, August 14th the Baltimore Ravens held their opening preseason game at the M&T Bank stadium against the New Orleans Saints. While the game was action packed towards the end which had a Ravens comeback win — 17-14 — there was another moment that stole the show during the game. If you’re a sucker for feel good stories then this one should hit home. Social media has been the biggest place that college programs have announced new scholarship recipients that were previously walk-on athletes for their teams.

It was done again by Maryland football on Saturday night, when the Terps used the broadcast of the Ravens game to inform walk-on running back Challen Faamatu he’s being put on scholarship for his final season. Standing next to his head coach Mike Locksley, Tualia Tagovailoa –the brother of Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa– who also plays Quarterback for the University of Maryland Terps made the live announcement, setting off a celebration among the Maryland players — Faamatu — in the stands. The two fellow Hawaiians have been friends for years.

Lawd, who’s cutting onions?! Congrats to Challen and we wish you all the best with your new scholastic opportunity.
