Ronald Gasser, the 54-year-old man who fatally shot ex-NFL player Joe McKnight in a suspected road rage case near New Orleans, has been arrested for manslaughter.

According to police records, Gasser is being held without bond in Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana. He initially admitted to shooting McKnight three times during the December 1 altercation, but after being detained and questioned by cops, the 28-year-old White man was somehow released just hours later. Somehow.

As for how the shooting occurred, “Officials say the two were arguing and McKnight was shot while standing at the passenger window of Gasser’s car while Gasser was in the driver’s seat,” TMZ notes.

McKnight played for the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs from 2010 up until 2014 and then went on to play for the Canadian Football League.
