FRANCE-US-BASKETBALL-JORDAN

After years of people saying Michael Jordan hasn’t done anything for the Black community, he’s made an effort to change that over the past few months.

The basketball great recently donated $5 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture and released a statement after the deaths of Orlando Sterling and Philando Castille.

Sadly, the violence hasn’t stopped and Jordan has released another statement following the death of 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte, North Carolina:

First, I want to express my condolences to the Scott family for their loss. I also wish for a full recovery to those who have been injured. In light of the tragic events of the past three days, it is more important than ever that we restore calm and come together, as a community, in peaceful demonstration and conversation, and in constructive and non-violent ways. As part of the fabric of Charlotte, the Hornets organization is committed to working with civic leaders, our elected leaders and law enforcement to foster more trust, transparency and understanding so we can heal and grow together as a community,” said Jordan in a statement released by the NBA.

Jordan grew up in North Carolina and attended UNC before going off to the Windy City to join the Bulls. He’s still a figure in the community as a part owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets.

The 53-year-old knows all too well about senseless violence because his father, James Jordan, was killed by two teenagers during a car robbery in 1993.
