As these last couple of weeks have been very tense for the police departments across the U.S. and citizens, especially African Americans, you get to see how a lot of people feel. After making a threat about a child on Facebook, a Kansas City officer has been fired.

According to Lanaydra Williams, who lives in Dallas TX, was suprised when on Thursday around 11:50pm, she got a notification on Facebook from someone commenting on her child’s picture from 2014 that she posted. The message read, “We’ll see how much her life matters soon..better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found :) hold her close tonight, it’ll be the last time.” Immeditaley, she clicked on the Facebook page of the person who left the comment and to her surprise it was a police officer from the Overland Park Police Department in Kansas. Immediately, she contacted authorities.

“I was upset because this is my child. If it had been me, it would have been different but this is my child.”

OPPD launched an investigation of the person who made the comment and identified that it was one of their officers who made the comment and immediately fired him.

In a statement, Overland Park Police Chief Francis Donchez Jr. said, “It was obvious that our officer did not meet the standards of professionalism for the Overland Park Police Department. This quick action demonstrates our commitment to our core values including integrity and respect. I want to assure our community, and those outside our community, that our highest priority is the safety and welfare of the citizens of Overland Park, and the men and women who protect everyone. I will continue to hold the employees of the Overland Park Police Department accountable for its actions on and off-duty. His actions do not represent the Overland Park Police Department in anyway and no one should be subjected to any type of discrimination or this kind of behavior.”
