An iconic image taken on April 25 by 26-year-old Baltimore resident Devin Allen is featured on this week’s issue of TIME Magazine. Allen took to the streets of Baltimore, in the middle of riots resulting from the death of Freddie Gray, and captured fascinating images of raw emotion, hurt and pain from a generation misunderstood. Instagram gave the young photographer a global platform.

Devin Allen told TIME Magazine:

“For me, who’s from Baltimore city, to be on the cover of TIME Magazine, I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless,” says Allen. “It’s amazing. It’s life changing for me. It’s inspiring me to go further. It gives me hope and it gives a lot of people around me hope. After my daughter, who’s my pride and joy, this is the best thing that’s happened to me.”

Kudos to Devin Allen! You’ve made Baltimore proud. SEE the TIME Magazine cover here.
