What does it mean to be “molested”? Molesting is the same as sexual abuse. Sexual abuse is sexual conduct between a child and an adult. This can include kissing and touching in private places, an adult discussing inappropriate sexual conduct with the child, or an adult touching their own sexual parts in front of a child. This exchange from an adult to a child is inappropriate and should be reported. If you are a child experiencing inappropriate touching and/or behavior from an older adult it is considered sexual abuse and it is detrimental to tell a responsible adult to help. There is no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed, you did nothing wrong and it is not your fault. There are many ways to get help. For adults, if you have a child or know a child who has been sexually abused follows these steps:

  • Please take the child to the nearest hospital
  • Take the child to your nearest police station
  • For further help call ChildHelp, a national child abuse hotline, at 1-800-4-A-CHILD
