With people celebrating Independence Day all across the country it has always been tradition to end the festivities with the lighting of fireworks. Though fun to watch, fireworks are also extremely dangerous if not handled properly and every year there are hundreds of firework related injuries due to their improper use. To prevent such mishaps and ensure that your celebration is a safe and fun filled one here are a few tips on how to ensure you and your family is talking the proper precautions when lighting your fireworks.

  • Don’t give young children fireworks!!! If the child is under the age of 5 then it is best not to let the play with sparklers or anything of the sort. Sparklers burn at 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit!!! And could cause serious burns or eye injuries.

  • Buy only LEGAL fireworks!!! I know you want to experience the biggest firework explosion for your personal entertainment, but many times it consist of buying illegal fireworks. Fireworks such as M80, M100, and Blockbusters. Also be sure to store them in a cool, dry place.
  • ALWAYS USE FIREWORKS OUTSIDE!!! “Unless you want to burn your house down!!!
