It has been 3 years since Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother, and nephew was allegedly killed by William Balfour. The trial is set to begin on April 23rd and could be a month-long process. It has been reported that Jennifer Hudson could be there every day of the trial, and though it may be good for the family, it could troublesome for the jurors.

Jury selection began today. Defense attorney’s will have to narrow down to 12 final jurors out of 150. Jennifer Hudson’s “star status” could complicate the proceedings.

Her “presence could be a distraction for the panel once each side finishes with opening statements and gets down to the business of calling witnesses,” says criminal defense attorney Troy Slaten

“Her presence at the trial could have a huge impact. Star power always matters. The prosecutor wants her there and the defense does not want her there,” says Slaten. “The jury could be looking at her reactions, if she is crying, how she reacts to certain testimony. They are going to be very aware of her presence.”
