Funnyman Eddie Murphy was set to host the 84th Academy Awards, but as of today, the Academy will have to find  another host.

In the Press Release that the The Academy Awards issued today, Murphy commented saying “First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party’s decision with regard to a change of producers for this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

The reason that Murphy chose to step down to host the awards is because they chose not to use Bret Ratner (producer of Tower Heist), as co-producer of the annual award show.

President Tom Sherak, responded, “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well.”

Ratner resigned from the Awards after all the commotion that he caused when he was on Howard Stern’s radio show and made a comment about gays. (NY Times)
