Trust is often the hardest thing that a person can do. As infants we instantly trust the woman we call our mother because her scent and sound comfort us. Trust is defined as the reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence of hope.
As we get older we lose the sense of trust and become hardened. We can get trust back. It will take time. If we want to trust we must learn first that we must be ones who can be trusted. It often the injuries and scars that we obtain while loving of life that we begin the descent into mistrust. If there is anyone in the world worthy of our trust it is our Higher Power.
When all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.
When we trust other people, we may not only be giving them something in hope of getting something else back in the future, we may also be exposing ourselves in a way that they can take advantage of our vulnerabilities. We learn to trust, as we learn to love.
