Current Mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, will announce today that she will not seek re-election in 2016. After spending months building her campaign with grass roots efforts, the mayor says she will spend her final months as mayor helping the city’s recovery efforts. She also plans on spending more time with her family.
The mayor saw many positives during her tenure as mayor – including a major drop in the unemployment rate, securing funds for new school construction and opening a new recreation center. But many believed despite these positives, she would have had a tough time winning re-election after the death of Freddie Gray and the riots that followed.
According to the <a href=”http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bs-md-ci-rawlings-blake-20150911-story.html”>Sun</a>, she has no plans on seeking another office.
