Important meeting, first date, new dress to wear for that special occasion can all be ruined by a visit from PMS (Pre Menstral Syndrome) It’s not even your “monthly visitor” but he symptoms that greet you at the door before Aunt Flow shows up! Ugh…

What do you do to have a half way sane day? Follow these tips:

  1. Reduce your intake of fat, sugar and salt
  2. Reduce or avoid altogether your intake of caffeine and alcohol.
  3. Experiment with supplements suggested by your healthcare provider. Your healthcare provider may suggest calcium or magnesium supplements or even vitamin E to reduce symptoms.
  4. Pain relievers like aspirin, ibuprofen, or other non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed as PMS treatments for significant pain associated with PMS symptoms (for example, backache, cramps or tender breasts).
  5. If you limit your salt intake but still put on a significant amount of weight or have leg or ankle swelling, then diuretics can help. Anti-anxiety drugs may be prescribed for patients with severe anxiety. Bromocriptine may be given occasionally for severe breast pain.
