2011 is shaping up to be a big year for black music on the festival circuit in the United States. The lineup for the 17th annual Essence Music Festival was announced and features such heavyweights as Kanye West, Mary J. Blige and Jill Scott amongst others.

Jill Scott has a new look. The singer/actress recently attended her 20th year high school reunion and debuted her straightened hair.
In this issue, she debuts the first photo of her baby boy, Jett, as well as some gorgeous floor-length dresses.

Jill Scott in an ESSENCE interview admitted to a "twinge" when her successful black male friends reveal that they are involved with white women. Facebook and twitter were both busy as Love Zone listeners piped up on whether or not interracial dating matters to them.
She says: "But something in me just knew he didn't marry a sister. Although my guess hit the mark, when my friend told me his wife was indeed Caucasian, I felt my spirit...wince. I didn't immediately understand it."
