Sports exists as a great unifier but after France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, social media users busted out the history books for a lesson on immigration, colonialism and xenophobia.

France’s complicated history with colonialism is littered with islamophobia, racism and xenophobia–and social media took Sunday’s win as the perfect opportunity to point it out.
