Held July 9 through July 13, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s 57th National Convention in Washington, D.C., brought together more than 20,000 in-person members from across the country to see eight influential women inducted into the organization, spotlighting their commitment to the sorority’s mission of public service, sisterhood, scholarship and social action.

The induction ceremony, led by International President Elsie Cooke-Holmes, celebrated 2024’s honorary class, including luminaries like Queen Latifah, Danielle Brooks, Donna Brazile, Swin Cash, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Janice Bryant Howroyd, Toni Townes-Whitley and Fawn Weaver.

Founded in 1913 by 22 women at Howard University, Delta Sigma Theta continues to champion its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust – economic development, educational development, political awareness, international involvement, and physical/mental health. Its vibrant convention serves as both a fellowship and a catalyst for civic engagement.

During this week’s induction ceremony, Cooke-Holmes reminded attendees of Delta’s role in fueling social justice: “We know what’s at stake – and we are redoubling our efforts with purpose and precision.”

This year’s honorees truly reflect Delta’s ethos of “Black women leading with courage,” each making strides in their respective arenas while inspiring future generations of Deltas and community advocates nationwide.
