Rick Ross Honored with “Rick Ross Way” Street in Mississippi
In a heartfelt ceremony on Juneteenth, a downtown street in Clarksdale, Mississippi, was officially renamed “Rick Ross Way” to honor the hometown hero.
Born Williams Roberts II in Clarksdale and raised in Florida, Rick Ross rose to fame in the mid-2000s with his debut album Port of Miami. Since then, he’s become a hip-hop mogul, building the Maybach Music Group, investing in Wingstop franchises, and launching a successful Boss Up conference for HBCUs. His entrepreneurial empire spans music, food, real estate and community initiatives, making him a true business icon.
At the street renaming event, Ross expressed sincere gratitude: “To be back in the city where my story began … it’s humbling. Clarksdale, this is more than a street name. This is legacy.” He praised his hometown’s creativity and spoke directly to the younger generation, encouraging them to have pride in their roots.
Mayor Espy emphasized the honor as more than symbolic. “We honor his music legacy, we honor his heart and what he has done for this great city,” he said.
The moment marked a full-circle celebration for Ross: returning to the town of his birth to recognize not only his musical achievements but his contributions as an entrepreneur and philanthropist as well. With “Rick Ross Way” now on the map, Clarksdale has cemented its native son’s place in history.
