FBI Discovers 150 Homemade Bombs In Virginia Home

Federal agents seized over 150 pipe bombs and explosive devices from Brad Spafford’s Virginia home in December, marking the largest seizure of such devices in FBI history. Found in a detached garage and inside the home he shared with his wife and children, the devices included “lethal”-labeled bombs and a vest rigged with explosives.

Spafford, 36, was initially charged with possessing an unregistered short-barrel rifle, with prosecutors indicating additional charges may follow. While his defense argues there’s no evidence of violent intent and questions the functionality of the devices, prosecutors cite his political rhetoric, including using President Biden’s photo for target practice and expressing support for political assassinations.

Spafford remains detained as prosecutors push for further restrictions, deeming him a potential danger despite his lack of a criminal record or known acts of violence.
