21 year old rapper, Mulatto, has been a household name through 2020. Now, she may be thinking about changing her’s.

Many people have expressed concerns over the “MUWOP” rapper’s name. The term “Mulatto” is even referred to by Merriam-Webster as ‘sometimes offensive’. The dictionary offers two definitions of the term:

  1. The first-generation offspring of a black person and a white person.
  2. A person of mixed white and black ancestry.

Hip Hop DX revealed the news in an interview with “Big Latto” at the BET Hip Hop Awards. She shared, “I can’t say too much because we’re working on something right now, but I would be lying to say it hasn’t crossed my mind before.”

From some of the tweets I’ve seen on my timeline to the conversations that I’ve witnessed; it’s hard to believe that the young emcee can think about anything else, honestly. Social media makes controversial topics even more bold. “It is a controversy that I hear and see every day as far as my name goes, so I would be lying to say no I never thought of that. But I can’t say too much because right now, because it’s going to be a part of something bigger,” she continued.

Now, I’m very intrigued by the idea of her team executing this name change the right way. She’s undoubtedly talented and her potential is through the roof. However, all of that is null and void if her name upsets others, including her fans. What do you think? Should she change her name? Hit me on Instagram and let me know.
