Trump Administration Sets New Work Requirement Rules For Food Stamp Recipients

On Sunday, a federal judge struck down a Trump administration rule that could have taken food stamps from nearly 700,000 people during the pandemic.

According to CNN, the rule would have required more food stamp recipients to work in order to receive benefits by limiting states’ ability to waive existing work mandates. After being announced in December, the rule was supposed to go into effect on April 1 but was blocked in mid-March, along with work mandates in the food stamp program, as part of the COVID-19 relief package.

Food stamp enrollment has soared during the outbreak as millions of Americans lost their jobs.
