President Trump was in some hot water this past weekend, actually since he has been in office, has there been a time that he wasn’t? No.

In a statement released last week, Trump shared that he is considering not implementing a 25 year old program that was designed to benefit Historically Black College and Universities because it may be unconstitutional. He didn’t agree that there should be a bill that “allocate benefits on the basis of race, ethnicity, and gender.” According to the site, Trump’s administration would treat those HBCU funding bill “in a manner consistent with the requirement to afford equal protection of the law under the Due Process Clause of the Constitution’s Fifth Amendment.”

After taking a lashing via social media and in news outlets. Trump has begun to backpeddle on his comments made.

In a statement released Sunday, 45 tells:

The statement that accompanied my signing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017, sets forth my intention to spend the funds it appropriates, including the funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), consistently with my responsibilities under the Constitution. It does not affect my unwavering support for HBCUs and their critical educational missions.

In February of this year, I signed an Executive Order pledging to strengthen the capacity of HBCUs to provide the highest-quality education; to ensure equitable opportunities for HBCUs to participate in Federal programs; and to increase the number of college-educated Americans who feel empowered and able to advance the common good at home and abroad.

My commitment to the above-stated goals remains unchanged.

To show that he 100% in support of HBCU’s, U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, will deliever the commencement address at Bethune-Cookman University.
