natasha thurmon, baltimore hometown champ winner

We put a call out that we were looking for the city’s heroes for our 3rd Annual Hometown Champions Contest and you answered.

Congratulations are in order for Natasha Thurmon who won the “Hometown Champ” title for her open heart and selflessness in the Baltimore community.

Her Story:

Natasha Thurmon is a coach, mentor, and teacher in Baltimore City. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. I’m an so impressed with her tenacity and the sleepless nights she endures. She has run a summer program for 5 years for 40 student athletes to keep them off of the streets. She assigned over 100 student athletes with mentors from Morgan State to encourage them to aspire to attend college/play on a collegiate level. Her girls in her program are meeting academic success every year & attending college. Natasha even mentors her mentors!

It is quite impressive! She provides them with advice and recommendations to help them enter the workforce. She took her 2014 volleyball team to the middle school city championship & claimed the victory as an underdog team. She also took her middle school city basketball to the championship this year. She is making such a huge impact on the city and the inner city community where she works. She works hard to continue raising funds (100k) for our youth & only feels rewarded when she sees her student athletes meet success.

Thurmon’s prize includes $1000, plus an all-expense paid trip to the 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards this year.

The 2016 NAACP Image Awards airs live Friday, February 5th on TV One. Check out some of the nominees below!
