Maryland became the first U.S. state to make it illegal for employers to ask employees or job applicants to hand over their Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter user names and passwords. The Illinois Legislature recently passed a similar bill, which the governor is likely to sign into law shortly. Employers may not fire, discipline or impose any penalties on employees or reject a job applicant for refusing to disclose such account access information.
The new law actually took effect October 1 but I thought I would share it again in the New Year! Happy Facebooking friends!
