This week, I will start by congratulating MEAC Conference Champs Bethune-Cookman!  They defeated FAMU 21 to 16 in the Florida Classic to finish their conference schedule without a loss this season. Coach Brian Jenkins will lead Bethune –Cookman into the FCS playoffs against Coastal Carolina in Daytona Beach on November 24th.  Speaking of playoffs Miles and Fort Valley State both came up empty in the first round of the division two playoffs. Miles lost to West Alabama 41-7, while Fort Valley State came up short to Lenoir-Rhyne 21 to 6.

 

Meanwhile, in other action this weekend Alcorn State lost to Jackson State 37 to 11. Jackson State will now play Arkansas Pine-Bluff in the SWAC championship on December 8th .The Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine-Bluff were also winners slipping past Prairie View 42 to 41. Mississippi Valley State got a win over Texas Southern 34 to 3, Kentucky State beat Central State 17 to 6, North Carolina A&T wins in overtime 22 to 16 over North Carolina Central.

 

Closer to home our beloved Bears of Morgan State finished their season on the wrong side of a 27 to 17 loss to Hampton, while the Bison of Howard finished on the positive side of a 41 to 34 win over Delaware State.  Morgan State closed out 2012 with  3 wins and 8 losses, Howard finished with 7 win and 4 losses, Bowie State finished 2012 with 5 wins and 5 losses.

 

Later this week, we will celebrate turkey day with a healthy side of football! I’ll have seconds please??? Tuskegee and Alabama State will play each other in the 89th Annual Turkey Day Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. The Golden Tigers are 9-1 and the Hornets of ASU are 7-3. This weekend Grambling State and Southern battle in the Bayou Classic in New Orleans and Winston Salem State battles Shippensburg in the second round of the D-2 Playoffs in Winston Salem, N.C.The defending Black College National Champion Rams are now 11-0 and Coach Connell Maynors Red Black made it all the way to the Semi-Finals of the D-2 Playoffs last season.
