The college football season is quickly approaching conference championship games and playoff alignments.

Let’s start with Tuskegee and Miles College, who are a part of the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The Golden Tigers handed Golden Bears their second loss of the season 27 to 17. The Tuskegee victory puts the Golden Tigers in the SIAC Title game, most likely against Fort Valley State 38 to 20 winners over Albany State.

The CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) Title game looks like it is set as well. The Vikings of Elizabeth City State beat Bowie State 14-13 and locked up a spot in the title game against Winston-Salem State.

Meanwhile in the MEAC ( Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference)  the Wildcats of Bethune –Cookman are sitting on top after beating our Morgan State Bears 24 to 13 . Howard  won the battle of the “Real HUs”   20 to10  over Hampton.

Florida A&M lost to North Carolina A&T 16 to 3. The Rattlers may have been playing with heavy hearts after  head coach Joe Taylor announced his plans to retire at the end of this season.

Out west in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) the Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine-Bluff clinched a spot in the SWAC title game  by beating Texas Southern 49 to 3 . Alabama A&M is sitting in prime position to be the other team in the championship after surviving a 24 to 23 overtime win over Southern. Alabama State stopped Prairie View A&Ms’ 3 game winning streak 35 to 21. The Tigers of Jackson State made the Tigers of Grambling State look like kittens beating the G-men 53 to 7 !

There is only one unbeaten team in HBCU football and that distinction belongs to the defending Black College National Champion Winston-Salem State Rams who are now 10-0  thanks to their 41 to 8 win over Fayetteville State . Coach Connell Maynors Rams are Ranked number 4 in all of D-2 Football and secured their spot in the CIAA conference championship game!
