Grammy Award winning rapper and actor 50 Cent is celebrating a birthday today. Born and raised in Jamaica Queens, NY, the rapper survived the all too familiar life of crime and drug dealing. He grew up in a home without his parents after his mom was murdered when he was twelve. 50 Cent began rapping at an early age and was introduced to Jam Master Jay who taught him the basics and even produced his first album, which was never released. 50 Cent then moved onto Columbia Records where he was signed and the rest is history.
In 2002, Eminem noticed the rapper and flew him out to LA to meet with Dr. Dre. “Wanksta” was on his mixtape and we all know how big of a hit that song was. It was put on Eminem’s 8 Mile soundtrack.
The rapper has appeared in nearly thirty films since 2003 and released thirteen albums that have gone platinum many times over.
