Today marks the nine-year anniversary of the death of the rising R&B star, Aaliyah. Many say that we lost her at the peak of hr career. Although gone too soon, we have many fond memories of this talented artist. Join us as we honor the memory of Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

Warner Brothers Films started filming a biopic based on Aaliyah’s life in March 2010. The film will be directed by Bill Condon, the director behind the award-winning blockbuster, Dreamgirls. Canadian singer and former girlfriend of highly popular rapper Drake, Keshia Chanté (pictured below) is set to play the late singer. Chanté bares a striking resemblance to Aaliyah and has been vigorously studying every aspect of the star’s life.

The week after Aaliyah's death, her third studio album, Aaliyah, rose from number 19 to number one on the Billboard 200. "Rock the Boat" was released as a posthumous single. She went on to win two posthumous awards at the American Music Awards of 2002; Favorite Female R&B Artist and Favorite R&B/Soul Album for Aaliyah. Her second and final film, Queen of the Damned, was released in February 2002.
