BGE Customers Can Now Apply for Credits Toward Their Bills
Governor Wes Moore announced a $19 million Customer Relief Fund, with $15 million dedicated to Baltimore Gas & Electric customers, thanks to Exelon’s Good Neighbor Plan, which allows individual one-time credits of $250 to $750 available to qualifying ratepayers starting July 1.
To bolster that support, BGE customers will also automatically receive two additional $80 credits on their bills later this tear in August/September and January/February under Maryland’s new Next Generation Energy Act. These rebates are based on past energy usage and eligibility criteria including active account status by June 1.
The United Way of Central Maryland is administering the BGE fund, while similar programs exist for Pepco and Delmarva Power customers. Nonprofits are also stepping in and providing senior citizens and medically vulnerable residents with free air-conditioning units.
These measures come after Maryland saw residential energy bills climb by approximately 30 percent since 2020, leaving many households scrambling to keep up with their bill. While the relief is labeled temporary, officials note it provides crucial short-term aid ahead of broader legislative efforts to stabilize long-term energy costs.
